Communications Providers are currently in the process of upgrading their customers from the existing analogue PSTN network to new IP-based services. Telephone sockets are being replaced with Smart Routers to better support the demands of today’s consumers, their smart devices, apps and the Internet of Things (IoT). This means PSTN based alarms will fail and need to be upgraded.
The change will affect anything that currently uses plugs into the existing analogue telephone wall sockets, including Fire & Security signalling systems, Telecare Dispersed Alarms and Lift Alarms. The project is well underway and the impact is already being seen at premises nationwide.
As part of the UK upgrade, 318 exchanges are now in 'stop-sell' which is estimated to impact over 3.5 million premises. 5 further tranches have been announced over the next 12 months, including an additional 300+ exchanges and over 3 million premises. In Ireland, 351 exchanges are now included in the upgrade.
Communication Providers are advising End-users to contact their service providers for assistance. Follow the links to see what this means for your sector.
